‘The Parade’ - The Animated Life Blog

"We can’t help it. We are fascinated by faces and bodies alike. Every face tells a story, and the story is a mystery. The clues abound and we read them instinctively in the blink of an eye. We categorize one another as bums, businessmen, tourists, models, etc., almost unconsciously."

Photos from Iran

"Many of the photographs here were taken and transmitted at great risk in the past week, in the hopes that others would be able to see and bear witness."

"In the ten days since Iran's disputed presidential election, street demonstrations have taken place every day. Iranian citizens, supporters of opposition candidates, continue to take to the streets and document what they encounter there, despite explicit government bans, the danger of arrest (many hundreds placed in custody), or possible physical harm (at least 19 deaths so far)."

Remind me: Which political party is "decadent" and "sick"?

"Even after confessing to the most flagrant and colorful fornication, the worst that a conservative must anticipate is a stern scolding, followed by warm assurances of God's forgiveness and a swift return to business as usual."

The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien - Phil Jackson (06/19/09)

(Update: I've decided to remove the embedded video because of its autoplay feature. Super annoying to have something play without the user's consent. Click link to see the interview with PJ, very worthwhile if you're a fan).

Always interesting to hear Phil Jackson speak about his philosophy and basketball. The most interesting bit, though, is when he talks about his first Bulls team of the early 90s and how malleable each player was even though they weren't dominate individually (other than MJ).

The idea that a dominate team requires each player to capable of many roles is very much in line with the concept of Total Football employed by the Dutch in the 70s (Cryuff) and now Arsene Wenger at Arsenal. I think it's no coincidence that I've always admired Phil Jackson's teams for this very reason.
